This
is an area of Morocco that is undiscovered to many British paraglider
pilots, I doubt if it
will stay that way for long. Magical smooth winter
flying can be had here, over the red plains
surrounding the incredible
city of Marrakesh. Just at the start of the Atlas Mountains, Sites
like
Agregour, and Ait Ourir, provide a combination of dynamic soaring and
thermals,that will
be familiar to many paragliding pilots, but not
through the winter. Morocco is a location that
has flying as good as the best British summer, right through the winter! and is incredibly
reliable, with the breeze pulled onto the ridges by the high Atlas behind.
Average winter
temperatures in Morocco are around 25 C and can be as
high as 35 C even in November.
With low cost flights now available to
Morocco Marrakech (RAK)from many UK airports,
you would be mad not to
give it try. This location has such great take offs, and landings
(top
and bottom) that it makes learning possible from EP+, and will satisfy
the needs of
the most demanding paraglider pilots. View

Our
Accommodation is on site at Agregour, with a Moroccan riad style house
only a short walk from take off. The food is fantastic, with local produce
served fresh every day. You will really experience a true sense of this
amazing country and its people. A typical day starts with a breakfast
of omelettes and home cooked breads and pastries, served with mint tea.
Then walk to take off for the first flight of the day, usually a smooth
and uneventful top to bottom, |

The conditions start to improve and begin to get soarable by noon. As the
day progresses
the thermals come into play and it is fun time for the X.C
heads. Towards the end of the
afternoon conditions cool off a little and
go back to smooth dynamic soaring and gentle
thermalling until it gets dark.
After a couple of days familiarising, We may decide to fly
other sites such
as Ait ourir. a truly magical 7km ridge, a 20 minute walk to take off,
where
usually a small sized porter will be happy to carry your kit. There will
also be
opportunities to fly higher sites in the Atlas. Usually we will
decide to stay over the last
night in Marrakech, to sample the atmosphere
of the city, perhaps explore the Souk and
have a bite to eat in the vibrant
Djmaa el Fna. |
