At
Axis, we teach you to Fly! We follow the syllabus developed by the BHPA
the sports
national governing body. This syllabus consists of 42 tasks, both practical
and theoretical,
which lead to a "Club Pilot" hill paragliding rating, which
gives you enough knowledge and
skills to be ableto fly a paraglider unsupervised. This is just a base level of knowledge
however,
and the real learning often happens after leaving us...A little like learning to drive
The
paragliding course is actually divided into two parts: Elementary
Pilot (usually 3-4 days)
and Club Pilot, about 4-6 days on average.
How long it takes partly depends on your individual
progress and
how lucky you are with the right weather to complete your tasks.
If you want to progress your paragliding further, and take pilot
or advanced pilot paraglider
ratings, these can be achieved under
the umbrella of a local club, where the services of
volunteer
"Club Coaches" can be utilised if you wish.
You may want to take some extra tuition with Axis in the form
of a course abroad,
Perhaps an "Introduction to Alpine paragliding
Course" a "Paraglide and Ski Course",
or a "Cross
Country Paragliding" Course.

If
you are not sure if paragliding is for you You might want to try
an introductory day, training on our gentle training slopes here
in South Wales. This first day will take you through the basic
theory, introduction to equipment, emergency procedures, ground
handling the paraglider, and then some low level flights. If you
love it, as we think you will, you can then book some more days,
or a course abroad.

At
Axis we have found that the ideal person to undertake all their
training here
in the UK, is probably someone who is self-employed,
or has the ability to be
very flexible with days off, and can
work with the unpredictable nature of
British weather.
If
you are only available at weekends and have limited or inflexible
time off,
you will be better suited to learning on a beginners
course abroad. This allows
you to get a block of concentrated
tuition, and will help you progress much
more quickly.
